Looking for Patterns

Our current unit in Mathematics is all about patterns. We've worked with repeating patterns, which the students have created, described and extended using different materials, such as colours, shapes and movements. We've looked at the unit of a pattern, which is the part that repeats over and over. We will continue our thinking by looking at growing patterns and constructing, describing and extending number sequences with constant increments.

Looking at patterns is also something that we do during Word Study. During these lessons, the children notice different spelling patterns in groups of words. Many of our Word Study activities involve word sorts by spelling patterns.

Where else do you see and use patterns? Please leave a comment to let us know!
