Reading Partners

The children have been doing a great job working with their reading partners! Here are some of the things that they have been practising:

When they re-read parts of their books to their partners, the children get practise reading for an audience. They develop their fluency by re-reading familiar texts and they get to practise reading clearly and smoothly. The children have been working hard on noticing and respecting different types of punctuation marks. They have also been thinking about how characters are feeling so that they know how to read dialogue.

Reading partners can also use their time to talk about their books. While this is something that we often do as a class following read alouds, it takes a lot of practise for children to do on their own. Talking about books helps readers to better understand the content. It can help them to clarify confusing parts or challenge their thinking. It is fun to talk about books!
